Desert is a dominant Ball Python mutation who’s females have fertility issues.
The Desert Ball Python is a dominant mutation, completely unrelated to the Desert Ghost mutation.
The Desert is a clean looking mutation with brighter than normal yellows, a clear belly and faded head markings. [1]

History
The original desert-ball was purchased as a yearling in 2001. At the time it was assumed to be a totally separate recessive mutation. When it was bred it was discovered that it was a dominant mutation instead. I purchased an imported desert-ghost like ball python and discovered this too was dominant and in fact the same mutation. Thus there are two separate but compatible lines of desert-ball. Desert-balls are used to brighten up other mutations and are being widely bred to produce a range of different designer morphs. [2]
The Desert morph was produced by Stan Chiras and Peter Kahl. In the early 2000s, both imported male ball pythons that were assumed to be Desert Ghosts - when they were later bred, offspring emerged that looked identical to the sire. [3]
Appearance
Head
The head of the Desert Ball Python usually have a dark bases and heavy blushing around the crown.
Body
The body of the Desert Ball Python usually starts out with bright yellow colouration of the “alien heads” that fades with age. Alien heads tend to lack “eyes” or express individually.
Tail
The tail of the Desert Ball Python usually carries the same patterning as the rest of the body.
