The Inkspot is arguably everyone’s favorite dalmatian variant. It is characterized by spots as large as a pea. These are large impressive black spots that occasionally appear in overlapping clusters and can sometimes form interesting patterns and shapes resembling circles or even letters and numbers. [1]

Some Dalmatians display spots larger than normal these are Ink Blot / Ink Spots. Ink Blot / Ink Spots show at least a handful of large spots and can have an irregular shape. [2]
Proven Lines
They “seem” genetically the same BUT… We are still understanding the mechanism behind these spots. How I see it Ink, Dalmatian, Red spot, and bullseye fall under a “SPOT” category but there is a good chance they are genetically distinct or epistatic. The large spot will not just occur within a population of small spotted animals, this also goes for bullseye, and red spots. In order for the phenotype to present with these different types of spots a new animal is introduced. For example I have bred a few geckos over the years will dal and never once started producing red spots. Red animals or hypo colored animals seem to be the best scenario for producing red spots, this includes yellow. Also red hypo animals produce a significantly higher percentage of red spots. the mechanisms are a bit more complex so maybe their own section but still in a category of dal spots.
As for bullseye I have a few animals in my collection that produce them, but do NOT show bullseye spots themselves. When the pairing is separated, the dals produced with other animals are normal, no bullseye. I have had this repeat over the years and it seems like the bullseye is a interaction of some sort, about 25% of the time. I have seen Yellow animals, red animals, and lavender animals all produce these spots. [3]
