About

Hey everyone my name is Ryan, I own and operate Aesthetic Selection Reptiles (ASR)!

I'd like to thank you for visiting my MorphMarket store and sharing my passion for reptiles. Like many of you, my fascination for animals has been a lifelong experience. I've been keeping reptiles for about 20 years and have been breeding ball pythons since 2015. I'm an advocate of responsible keeping and breeding, but what exactly does that mean? In my personal practice, responsible keeping entails proper quarantine, care, and husbandry. I find some keepers are more eager to invest in genetics before they invest in the right set-up - however, what good are those genetics if you're not providing the best possible care to your animals? Though this topic engenders differing opinions, I've found what works for my animals, not me. The topic of keeping is always something I'm willing to discuss, so if you have any questions or expertise, please share! Next we arrive to the topic of responsible breeding and here at ASR, this translates to ensuring all animals are of proper weight (and mass), no over-production (ensuring all animals receive proper care), and each pairing has a worthwhile objective. Though this hobby is driven by spending (like many others), my motivation is to produce my interpretation of "living art". This is why all pairings done here are not to chase a fad, but to provide potent genetic combinations for long-term, uncharted projects. No two perspectives of art are the same, but I've found plenty of overlap in vision with other breeders. So, if you see overlap with my projects, I'll help facilitate your art the best I can.

About the Logo:
Every part of this hobby has made me consider and revise my definition of art. Having a passion for animals and genetics, I wanted a name and logo to reflect that. "Aesthetic Selection" is a play on Charles Darwin's term "Natural Selection", where the forces of nature sculpt subsequent generations. However, "Aesthetic Selection" implies the something considerably different from Darwin's term, where the only factors that sculpt following generations are aesthetics! The "ASR" is surrounded by a hexagon, which is not only a naturally occurring shape in nature, but the most versatile one as well. You will find the hexagon in honeycomb (provides maximum strength and coverage of rounded objects), in various animal's anatomy (both living and extinct, such as a fly's eye or trilobite's eye), and even at the molecular level (building blocks of DNA, the molecular structure carbon-based substances like coal, diamonds, and more)! Lastly, you will see the gold "S" is designed after the the backbone of DNA, symbolically reflecting our dedication quality genetics.

Store Policy

Shipping:
Currently I am shipping through Ship Your Reptiles (SYR) via FedEx overnight in the US. Prices listed do not include shipping cost. For animals over $500, shipping insurance is mandatory - I split this cost with my customers as it protects your investment and my work. I reserve the right to ship to a FedEx hub over a residence if I see it as necessary (in most cases this decision will be decided by weather). No animals will be shipped in weather where the low is ≤ 40° or the high is ≥ 90°.

Auctions:
All auctions hosted by ASR require payment within 48 hours of winning the auction. Additionally, final auction price does not include shipping (flat rate $50). If you have any questions about an ASR auction, please inquire before bidding.

Payment Plans:
All payment plans are determined individually at my own discretion. But you can expect the following conditions in the majority of cases:
25% non-refundable down-payment via PayPal friends and family (no exceptions). Duration is contingent on value, where the balance must be paid in:
30 days for purchases under $500
60 days for purchases $500 and over

Guarantees:
*Guarantees only apply to the original buyer*
I guarantee animals to be correctly sexed and healthy upon arrival. If shipped to a residence the animal MUST be signed for the first time, if you miss the first attempt ALL guarantees are null and void. If the animal is signed for the first time or picked up at a Fedex hub and is dead on arrival (DOA), the buyer must inform myself and FedEx within 1 hour of signing. Picture or video evidence must be provided if I request it - if not notified within the hour and evidence is not provided, you will not be refunded. You will, of course, be refunded if these requests are met. In DOA cases where shipping insurance is not purchased (animal cost under $500, does not include cost of shipping) the buyer is not protected or guaranteed a refund (insurance isn't costly, I always recommend it!).

Pairing information will always be given for every animal so the buyer is informed on all possible genes. I always guarantee the status of any heterozygous (hets) genetics. Actual gene identity is based on my interpretation, but not guaranteed. In all cases where I am uncertain, I will list the gene in question as "poss" or "possible". Incorrect gene identity is a growing problem in this hobby for a number of reasons, but in cases with ASR and other reputable breeders, this uncertainty is the product of the diversity of genes flowing within our collection and the market. I will always be as forward about genetics as possible and welcome the prospective buyer's thoughts.

Basic information about ASR animals:
- All ball pythons are kept in their own room (I do not mix species as a preventative health measure) with both ambient (80°-85°, depends on season) and hot-spot (~88°) controlled temperatures.
- All ball pythons are started on live rats. I will not feed mice or African soft furred rats (ASFs) to avoid the possibility of any animal developing a preference for anything other than a rat. This has benefitted both my customers and myself with strong rat feeders.
